Sumatra, Indonesia - Unhampered by heavy rains, members of the UAE Rescue Team started rescue operations in 10 locations in the quake-shattered Indonesian island of Sumatara and recovered several bodies from under the rubble.

Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Deputy Director of Emergency and Safety at Abu Dhabi Police said they had, in coordination with other international rescue teams, conducted an assessment of the disaster in the areas adjacent to the city.

"Under the directives of the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Lt. General His Highness Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE Rescue Team has established coordination with the UN office and other international teams. The team's members demonstrated extraordinary skills and efficiency in dealing with around-the-clock emergency situations," added Al Nuaimi.

During his meeting with the team's leader, the Indonesian Vice President thanked the government of the UAE for sending the team and dispatching relief materials.
