A UAE search and rescue team made up of 56 personnel, including six officers, left here for Indonesia to provide the necessary assistance in the ongoing search and rescue operations following a devastating 7.6 Richter-scale earthquake which recently hit the Island of Sumatra. The team, which include experts, is taking along all the tools and equipment necessary for a successful operation in Indonesia, in coordination with the UAE Ambassador in Jakarta.

According to the team's leader, Lt. Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Al-Nuaimi, who is also the deputy director of Emergency and Public Safety Directorate of the Abu Dhabi Police, the team is fully prepared for the mission and the assignment they will be tasked with by the concerned authorities in Indonesia. He said the mission was part of the UAE's commitment to reach out to people in distress, including rescuing victims of natural disaster in sister and friendly countries.

It is worth noting here that the UAE rescue team had participated in similar missions, including rescue operation in Pakistan in 2005, Indonesia in 2006 and 2007 and Afghanistan in 2008. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
