UAE rescue team to quake-hit Indonesia back home

The UAE rescue team dispatched to assist in the search and rescue operations for survivors of the devastating earthquake that has recently hit the Indonesian island of Java returned back home Tuesday night after it successfully completed its nine-day humanitarian mission.

Brigadier Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Director of Central Operations at Abu Dhabi Police, said the team had shown overwhelming response to deal with challenges the on the ground at the quake hit regions.

He paid tribute to Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Interior, for his personal follow up of the team's relief operations and his care for their safety while doing the noble job there.

Al Raisi, who welcomed the team upon its arrival at Abu Dhabi International Airport, said the team had carried out honourable missions that fit the UAE policy of extending humanitarian assistance and relief to victims of natural disasters and all those in need.

The 39-member team was led by Colonel Khalid Abdul Latif Al Dousary, Head of Ambulance and Rescue Unit of the Abu Dhabi Police. Special ambulances designed by the Abu Dhabi Police were airlifted and used in the relief operations. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
