Sumatra - The efforts of the UAE Rescue Team has received acclaim as it started operations in several locations in the quake-shattered Indonesian island of Sumatara and recovered several bodies from the rubble.

Rescue teams from Singapore, Switzerland, Austria viewed the logistic, communication and medical preparedness of the UAE team and lauded the relentless efforts being made by its members in the disaster area, according to Colonel Jamal Habash, Deputy Head of the team.

The UAE Rescue Team was not hampered by heavy rains, continued to coordinate with other international rescue teams and conducted an assessment of the disaster in the areas adjacent to the city where the K9 specialized unit conducted field search and managed to recover bodies buried under the rubble in 16 hours.

The efforts of the UAE Rescue Team has also been lauded by the Indonesian Vice President during his meeting with the team leader. The Indonesia senior official thanked the government of the UAE for sending the team and dispatching relief materials to the disaster zone. The 65-strong team is equipped with latest devices for rescue and recovery, said Habash. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
