The UAE has gained international reputation and ranks today among the world's nations as a respected member of the human family and a strong proponent of values of peace, tolerance and human fraternity, said H.H Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the President's wife of and Chairwoman of the UAE Women's Union. In a statement to "Dira'a Al Watan” magazine on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of the UAE National Day, Sheikha Fatima said: "Our ship has been kept afloat over the last three decades, thanks to the skilled navigator on the helm, H.H President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Today, our country commends a great respect among the world's nations and is seen as an advocate of peace and tolerance. The UAE, God willing, will continue to uphold these values” Sheikha Fatima extended her greetings and congratulations to H.H President Sheikh Zayed and also to Their Highnesses, the Rulers of the emirates on this historic occasion. She also extended her congratulations to the entire people of the UAE. "This 31st anniversary marks a truly historic moment in the history of our country. It is an occasion that is very dear to our hearts. We only pray to God to make our happiness an infinite one” she said. Underlining the successes of the UAE, Sheikha Fatima said these successes were only possible as a result of the perseverance of President Sheikh Zayed and his brothers, the Rulers of the emirates, who never faltered even during the most difficult times.

With determination and strong believe in God, they charted the way to future and ultimately succeeded in creating a civilization that is founded on, first and foremost, their believe in God, and secondly their convictions on the need for the development of human resources and of land, and finally interaction with the greater human family. On the role of women in the UAE, Sheikha Fatima said that the UAE leadership were the first to realize the great potentials of women, who constitute half of the society. With this consciousness, they worked to enshrine the rights of women in the constitution, thus guaranteeing their full rights to participate in the development of the country. This role did not contradict in any way with their sacred mission of raising their children in accordance with Islamic and Arab values.

Today, the achievements of UAE women are quite evident in various fields, particularly in the field of education, where women constitute 88.7 per cent in various educational levels in comparison to men who make up 82. 8. Sheikha underscored the significance of the UAE National Day, saying that it is a day in which the UAE citizens should look back with pride at their achievements in every field.
