AMMAN: An aircraft carrying 40 tonnes of donated emergency winter aid to refugees on Sunday arrived in the Jordanian capital.

The flight was operated by Maximus Air, the UAE-based all-cargo airline which also donated the aid cargo in response to the UAE's Show Compassion campaign.

The Show Compassion" (Tarahamu in Arabic) campaign was launched Tuesday by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to raise funds for one million people, including refugees, affected by winter conditions in the Levant to help them survive the powerful snowstorm Huda now sweeping across the Levant.

Mohammed Ateeq Al Falahi, Secretary-General of Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) noted that H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in the Western Region and President of ERC, urged the members of the community to respond to the fundraiser to help all people in distress, women, children, the elderly and the sick in particular, wherever they are.

CEO of Maximus Air, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qasimi, said that the flight to Amman was also part of the UAE humanitarian airbridge ordered Tuesday by His Highness the President to send urgent relief shipments of blankets, winter clothes and food supplies to help hundreds of thousands of refugees in Jordan and Lebanon, in addition to those affected in Gaza and other Palestine regions.

On Wednesday, the UAE's humanitarian airlift managed to carry emergency winter aid to refugees in the Levant before the blizzard descended on the region. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395274937777.html
