(WAM) The UAE Red Crescent Society, RCS, is dispatching four planeloads of various relief supplies to the Afghan refugees at the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. This is in line with the directives of President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. A total 200 tons of relief assistance will be flown to the area for distribution to the refugees who are fleeing the war in the impoverish country. The RCS has already started setting up a 40,000 capacity refugee camp in Shimen on the Pakistani side of the border as waves of refugees continue to flood to the area.

Mohammed Habroosh Al Rumaithy, RCS Board Member, who is heading the RCS delegation to Pakistan to oversee the setting up of the camp, said that Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, who is also the Chairman of the RCS, was constantly in close contact with them, adding that he had called today to review with them progress of work at the camp. He said that the delegation, accompanied by a number of Pakistani officials and the technical counsellor at the UAE Embassy in Pakistan, yesterday visited the location of the camp for further assessment, adding that the delegation had earlier met with the military officer in charge of Queta, who commended Sheikh Zayed for his support to Islamic issues and for his significant assistance to the Afghan refugees.
