The UAE Red Crescent Society (RCS) has sent 15 relief planes for the people of Palestine since October 2000. Material and financial aid worth Dh270 million has been provided so far, according to senior officials of the RCS. The RCS aid has been used to equip hospitals in Palestine and provide medicines and food and also to support families of Palestinian martyrs. Several thousand food packages have been supplied to people in besieged areas. The RCS officials said that 15 plane-loads of aid had been routed through airports in Cairo and Amman, according to a report in "Khaleej Times.” The society sent its representatives to ten Palestinian cities and towns to assessment the humanitarian situation on the ground and people's requirement. The officials said reconstruction work in the refugee camp at Jenin, to be carried out at an initial cost of Dh150 million, was presently being given top priority under the directives of the President, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the RCS, Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
