UAE signs contracts worth Dh350 million

The UAE yesterday signed contracts worth Dh350 million with local and international firms during the second day of the International Defence Exhibition and Conference IDEX 2003, which is underway here. Brigadier Obaid Salim Al Qitbi, the official spokesman IDEX announced here today that a contract worth USUSUSUS$28 million was signed with a UAE company, ADCOM for the supply of towers for army personnel carriers (Guardian) of the UAE Armed Forces. Three companies, KBP of Russia, and NORINCO of China competed for the deal. Three other local firms competed for the supply of bullet-proof jackets for the UAE army personnel in a deal worth Dh59 million. The deal was clinched by a UAE company

Saeed and Mohammed Al Naboudah. Brigadier Al Qitbi also unveiled a Dh9 million deal for purchasing 45 Jordanian made pick-up vehicles for the UAE Army. Another deal worth Dh74 million was signed with Saeed and Mohammed bin Naboudah for the construction of cooling stations at Madinat Zayed Military area. A contract worth Dh55 million was signed with an Al Banian firm AHBK and Mohammed bin Al Mahousen for the construction of Kukes airport in Albania. A Dh20 million deal for the supply of technical support of G 6 artillery was signed with a South African company.

Brigadier Al Qitbi affirmed the growing importance of IDEX exhibitions which, he said, expanded from just 400 companies in 1993 to 845 this year. He added that IDEX ranks as one of the best defence shows around the world, and evinced by the number of participating defence manufactures around the world. If anything, it shows the international standing of the UAE , under the leadership of H.H President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, he said. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
