Tashkent - The UAE and Uzbekistan signed three agreements on investment promotion and protection, avoidance of double taxation and political consultations to extend cooperation.

The agreements were signed in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammad returned home on Saturday after a two-day official visit to Uzbekistan. He was received at Dubai airport by Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority, Sheikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Sheikh Mayed Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Saeed Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Earlier in Tashkent, the Vice-President held talks with Uzbek Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyayev on various political and economic issues as well as bilateral ties and ways to bolster them in all fields.

Mirziyayev warmly welcomed Sheikh Mohammad and described his visit as a step towards extending bridges of economic and cultural cooperation between the two nations and their people.

The Uzbek leader expressed hope that the visit would contribute to developing relations and take cooperation between the two countries to new levels.

Sheikh Mohammad and Mirziyayev later toured Tashkent and visited Independence Square where Sheikh Mohammad laid a wreath at the Independence Monument.

Sheikh Mohammad presented a copy of his book My Vision to the prime minister who described it as a "precious gift." Sheikh Mohammad later sent cables to President Islam Karimov and Prime Minister Mirziyayev, thanking them for the warm hospitality accorded to him during his visit. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
