UAE starts immunisation drive in Indonesia

Jakarta - The UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has begun administering vaccines to citizens of Kota Pariaman Province in Indonesia against measles, chicken box and tetanus, as part of relief operations to assist quake victims there.

The RCA field hospital is concluding the week-long immunisation campaign in coordination the local relief commission, the Indonesian health ministry and Red Cross as a precautionary measures against outbreak of contagious diseases that could pose threat to health situation in disaster-hit towns and villages. The campaign is targeting 8,000 school children and 10,000 of citizens.

Mukhlis Rahman, Governor of the Kota Pariaman Province, lauded the humanitarian initiatives launched by the UAE under the leadership of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He also appreciated the early field deployment of the RCA teams to assist the affected people. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
