The Arab Youth Venture Foundation welcomes home the fourth group of UAE nationals sponsored by Mubadala Aerospace who worked alongside NASA scientists on space related mission - most with terrestrial applications - at the US Space Agency this summer. The interns - all engineering undergraduates - are Mejd Abu Muhair, Ahmed Al Menhali, both studying at the University of Sharjah and Abdulrahman Kalbat, studying at UAE University.
The students departed for the United States at the beginning of June, and now bring the total to 13 UAE nationals admitted into the exclusive EAP research internships, which began in 2010 and focused on diverse areas such as small SATS (satellites), remote sensing, grey water recycling, and sustainable technologies with applicability for earth.
According to Lisa LaBonte, CEO of the Arab Youth Venture Foundation, responsible for forging the NASA alliance to create the programme, "Each of the students demonstrated much skill and the NASA scientific teams were very pleased with the research results obtained. Although research positions are limited, in a strong vote of confidence based on the success of the programme in Year 1, NASA and AYVF have agreed to increase the number of UAE interns annually from 12 to 20.” – The Gulf Today
