UAE team emerge international show-jumping champions

The UAE show jumping team comprising Sheikh Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasimi, Humaid Rashid and Rashid Al Hossani emerged team champions at the International show jumping championship, currently underway in Kolkata, India. According to a press release from the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation, the UAE team topped five other teams in the international team competition after securing the least number of faults, 16 in all.



The other countries in the fray were Hong Kong, Iran, Singapore, Uzbekistan and Lebanon, apart from the hosts, India. The championships, which began on December 17 conclude tomorrow and include among other events, the International show jumping competition 2002, Junior and Sub Junior National equestrian and championship 2002 and the Eastern India equestrian championships 2002.



The UAE team also won the first place in the individual competition and second place in the team competition in the show jumping championship held in India, in 1998. Rashid Al Hossani participated in the International children's championship held in Tokyo, Japan. Both Hossani and Sheikh Majid qualified at the International show jumping championship held in Abu Dhabi in January this year and both were declared to be among the best 32 show jumpers in the world. The UAE show jumpers have already participated in several international competitions in different countries including Oman, Qatar, Syria, Bahrain, India, Japan, Holland, Columbia, Switzerland, South Korea, France, Germany, South Africa, Australia, Hong Kong and Spain. They registered a successful participation at the World Equestrian Games held in September at Jerez, Spain. (The Gulf News)
