UAE team intensifies quake relief operations

Balakot - Commander of the UAE Armed Forces team Colonel Abdurrrahman Ibrahim bin Abdul Aziz, who is running a field hospital and supervising relief operations in Hazara District and stationed in Bisan/Balakot, has said that his team has intensified distribution of necessary relief supplies.

In an interview with Emirates News Agency, Colonel Abdurrahman said the team also moves at night to villages in Naran and Kaghan to distribute tents, blankets, plastic sheets and heaters in view of severe cold in the affected areas. "Our team was the first to reach there and help the survivors, who are facing a harsh winter,” he said.

"Our efforts are in line with the appeals by the Government of Pakistan and international orgnisations to provide immediate relief to those living in the mountainous village and decline to leave their places,” the UAE team commander said. Col. Abdurrrahman Ibrahim said the field hospital in Bisan will continue its humanitarian mission for unspecified period.

The medical team has received around eighteen thousand injured and sick people since its establishment on October 12. Giving details, he said a total of 300 patients have been operated upon adding that the team is in coordination with the Pakistan Army to study the serious case and take decision to airlift them for treatment at UAE hospitals.

It may be noted that a total of 50 serious cases received treatment in different hospital in UAE. Several have returned after recovery. Col. Abdurrrahman Ibrahim said his team has also installed four water purification plants in Muzaffarabad and Balakot to provide the earthquake survivors clean drinking water. He said that UAE will also help in the reconstruction and rehabilitation stages. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
