UAE to head UNESCO body

United Arab Emirates has been elected to head the UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. At its third session held in Turkey between 4th and 8th November, UAE was represented by an official delegation headed by Dr. Nasser Ali Al Humairi, Director of moral heritage at the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH).

The Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage is the executive body in charge of the implementation of UNESCO's Convention for the safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, adopted in 2003 and ratified by 104 States to date.

The committee also elected UAE candidate Ewadh Ali Saleh to chair the 4rth session of the committee slated to be held in Abu Dhabi next year. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
