UAE to provide treatment for hundreds of Iraqi children

On the initiative of President H.H Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE has undertaken to provide medical treatment and rehabilitation for hundreds of Iraqi children.



Children suffering from chronic or acute diseases as well as those socially , psychologically or physically affected by the on-going violence in their country will also benefit from the programme.



In a statement issued to the media here on Sunday, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Presidential Affairs said: "The first batch of the children consisting of 70 children will arrive in Abu Dhabi soon in the company of their parents or guardians. This noble initiative is nothing new to H.H President Sheikh Khalifa, who is well-known for his philanthropic gestures. I'm really proud of this humanitarian gesture".



Sheikh Manosur also praised the efforts of the Iraqi musician Naseer Shama to mobilise support for Iraqi children and other victimised groups, adding that the UAE will support every effort to end bloodshed in Iraq and give Iraqis the opportunity to live in a stable and secure country.



As he extended his congratulations to Muslims on the occasion of Eid Al Fitr, Sheikh Mansour expressed his hope that the next Eid season would be a peaceful one, celebrated joyfully by all the Iraqis. He further expressed the hope to see a stable Iraq, regaining its rightful position in the international arena.



Earlier, the Abu Dhabi Authority for Health Services held a press conference to explain the arrangements being made to receive the Iraqi children in the in UAE hospitals.



Speaking at the press meet which was attended by the Iraqi Musician Naseer Shama, Hadhir Al Muhairi, Director of Services Sector at the Health Authority said the children would distributed to various hospitals ,including private hospitals.



For his part artist Shama extended his gratitude to President Khalifa for sponsoring the treatment and rehabilitation of the children.



"Children below three years will be accompanied by their parents while those above three will have one nurse for every 5 kids attending to them.



I hope more countries will follow this initiative", he said.



He added that a group of children have been received by the Kingdom of Bahrain. Over 1000 German doctors have also volunteered to treat Iraqi children in Germany. Norway has donated an entire hospital for children, said Shama, adding that there are about 300 children under the age of 5, who have been diagnosed with cancer. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
