UAE to rush relief supplies to Iran's quake victims

H.H. President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan yesterday ordered urgent relief supplies to be sent to victims of the earthquake that hit parts of Iran today. Acting on the President's instructions and the under the supervision of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed al Nahyan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the UAE Red Crescent Society, the Society said it would sent two planeloads of relief supplies to the affected areas. Khalifa Nasir Al Suweidi, Society's Chairman, said that the planes would carry 80 tons of medical supplies, food, tents, blankets and other items. Suweidi also expressed the Society's readiness to extend more assistance in future. A devastating earthquake, measuring 6.0 on the open-ended Richter scale, hit early morning Saturday the city of Bouynzahra, in northwestern Qazvin province resulting so far over 500 people dead, 1,000 and more 12,000 homeless.
