The United Arab Emirates Pavilion at Shanghai EXPO 2010 has been officially declared as the top international pavilion in the eyes of visitors to the world's largest EXPO event.

This was announced by Professor Liu Kang, Chair Professor and Dean, Institute of Arts and Humanities, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, who is director of an official study, entitled "State Research Project on The Image of EXPO".

The survey showed how members of the general public actually perceived the participating countries' pavilions. Based on overall criteria, the top pavilion at EXPO 2010 was that of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), followed (in order) by Germany, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Australia, Italy, Belgium, Republic of Korea, and the United States.

The survey was undertaken by a dedicated project team which conducted interviews and completed questionnaires with people as they left the different pavilions. The United Arab Emirates achieved the highest overall score of 90.42 points (out of 100). Visitors were particularly impressed by the dune shaped pavilion and the ways in which the exhibition within conveyed the exciting story of how the UAE has achieved its rapid economic growth. The German Pavilion came a very close second in the survey, with 90.40 points.

Professor Liu Kang told reporters that the survey reflected the views of the general public who visited different pavilions. He noted that most visitors were in the 18-45 year old age bracket and from urban backgrounds.

Commenting on the UAE's top rating he mentioned that Chinese visitors were fascinated by the UAE's unique story and the ‘economic miracle' of creating modern cities in what was formerly desert. This story, recounted in the film ‘In the Blink of an Eye' created a very strong and memorable impression among visitors.

The UAE pavilion scored the highest response in terms of people's enhanced impressions of countries after seeing their presentations.

Professor Liu Kang stated that the research report showed that the United Arab Emirates Pavilion effectively enhanced its ‘brand image' and ‘marketability' through design of its Expo pavilion and exhibition. "In the eyes of ordinary visitors, the UAE Pavilion provided the best display of a country's national image at EXPO 2010", he said. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
