UAE unites in charity drive

When it comes to charity, the people of the UAE are expected to put their full support behind a massive co-operative undertaking to raise money for ailing Lebanon, which kicks off today. "Giving” is yet again the top priority of the UAE as it rallies around a desperate Lebanon that is reeling under massive Israeli aggression marked by its apparent disregard for civilian lives and property.

More than 433 Lebanese lives have been lost since the hostilities began on July 12. The Arab Media Group is leading the way by kick-starting the fundraising event, "Towards Healing Lebanon's Wounds” today, which will see major radio and television channels joining together to raise funds to help the country's displaced population.

"[The] UAE is well known for its humanitarian and charitable works all around the world and we are sure that our people will spare no effort in alleviating the suffering of their brothers and sisters in Lebanon,” said Ibrahim Bu Melha, the Vice-Chairman of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Foundation, which is part of the campaign.

The joint campaign by Emirates Today, Al Emarat Alyoum, Al Bayan, Dubai Eye, Awaaz 104.4, Al Khaleejya 100.9, Al Arabia 99 and Noor Dubai, Sama Dubai and the UAE Red Crescent Society, is intended to reach the maximum number of people. (Emirates Today)
