UAE urges world community to force Israel dismantle wall

New York - The United Arab Emirates has urged the world community, particularly the UN and other parties of the Quadruple Committee, to act promptly and firmly in order to protect the Palestinian people and force Israel to dismantle the separation wall.

In a message to ambassador Paul Badji, Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People which falls on 29 November, President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan reiterated his country's position that calls for restoration of security, peace and stability.

He said that those and normalisation as well as economic and development cooperation between countries of the region including Israel "can not be achieved while Israeli occupation of the Palestinian and Arab territories continues, but through compliance with obligations as provided in the Road Map and the Arab peace initiative that calls for justice, ending the Israeli occupation and establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital."

He appealed to the world community to enhance avenues of political, development, economic and relief aid rendered to the Palestinian people and Authority in order to enable them gain their freedom and independence, lead a decent life and build their economic and social structures.

"The UN keenness to dedicate this day every year as a remembrance and an occasion of solidarity with the Palestinian people bears testimony to the support of the world community for the just and dignified struggle put up by the Palestinian people over the past 50 years for freedom and independence," he pointed out.

The President went on to say that despite the great efforts made by Arab, international and regional communities over the past 50 years to reach a fair settlement of one of the oldest issues put on the UN agenda, the world community is regrettably watching closely the series of brutal military raids carried out on daily basis by the Israeli army against the Palestinian people and their national establishments.

"Such operations are deemed as a form of aggression and organized state terrorism, which are rejected and unjustifiable by any means," he added.

Sheikh Khalifa said: "We have rejoiced over the Israeli military pullout from Gaza Strip and have regarded it as a first legal step which must be followed by other comprehensive and serious withdrawals from all the Palestinian and Arab territories occupied since 1967." What disturbs us, he noted, is the incomplete withdrawal by Israel from Gaza Strip and its move to extend building of the separation wall deep into Palestinian lands in addition to its annexation of more lands in towns and villages of the West Bank and Jerusalem.

He said the Israeli moves are not only in flagrant violation of the international law, the UN Charter and the Geneva fourth Conventions for 1949, but pose serious threat to the Road Map and efforts of the quadruple committee and others to restore security, peace and stability in the Middle East region in general.

"The continued leniency of the Security Council and active nations as regards Israel's hostile policies against the Palestinians and its non-compliance, hitherto, with all other liabilities as stated in the Road Map and international legitimacy's resolutions have largely driven Palestinians to state of despondency and frustration and have generated a feeling of injustice and extremism among them.
