The United Arab Emirates today welcomed a verdict delivered by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on a territorial dispute between Qatar and Bahrain. "The move is a historic landmark and achievement reflecting the sagacity of governments of the two countries, "Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, said. Sheikh Sultan voiced extreme delight of the UAE government and people at the verdict.

"The leadership, government and people of the UAE see the judgement as a victory for solidarity, wisdom and reason. It is a living example of the civilisational behaviour followed by President H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who advocates of peace, security and stability and calls for a peaceful means to be adopted as an effective and safest way to settle differences and conflicts,"he said.

The ICJ ruling, he went on to say, had closed a painful page of differences and opened up a fresh chapter for a constructive cooperation and better future not only for the peoples of Qatar and Bahrain but also for the GCC and Arab peoples at large. Sheikh Sultan also sent cables of congratulations to the leaders of the two countries. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
