The UAE welcomes the agreement reached in Nairobi on Saturday between the government of Sudan and the Sudanese People's Liberation Army (SPLA) aimed at achieving peace in the country.

This was stated by Saif Saeed bin Saad, Foreign Ministry's Under-Secretary, during a meeting with Sudanese Ambassador Mohyiddin Salim Ahmed Ibrahim at the ministry in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

Saif Saad said that the UAE welcomed the initial agreement and hoped that the accord would be implemented in order to achieve comprehensive peace in Sudan and bring to an end the bloodshed which had been going on for the past 19 years. The under-secretary expressed the hope that the agreement and the negotiation process to follow would enhance stability in Sudan. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
