The UAE Foreign Ministry has welcomed the UN resolutions 1956, 1957 and 1958 which ended key international sanctions imposed on Iraq.

Dr Tareq Al Haidan, Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, expressed the UAE's relief over the Security Council's "positive move that reflects international community's recognition of the efforts made by Iraq to turn a new leaf and to resolve current issues.”

"The UAE greets the government and people of brotherly Iraq for meeting its obligations related to Security Council resolutions and hopes that more progress will be made in achieving national reconciliation and in building its security, political and economic institutions,” Al Haidan said.

He added that the UAE was looking forward to another move by Iraq to meet outstanding obligations to Kuwait in an atmosphere of fraternal dialogue and bilateral cooperation. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
