UAE wins membership of key UNESCO councils

The United Arab Emirates was elected as a member of two UNESCO Councils; The Intergovernmental Council of the Management of Social Transformations (MOST) Programme and the Intergovernmental Council for the Information for All Programme (IFAP).

The country's election to the two councils was made during the international organisation's 35th conference in Paris.

UAE's Ambassador to France Abdullah Nasser Al Ameri expressed pleasure at the country's success in securing membership in the two vital councils within the UNESCO.

The country's election to the two councils was seen as a fruitful outcome to the efforts made by Abdullah Musabah Al Nuaimi, UAE's Permanent Representative to UNESCO, to secure the membership.

MOST focuses on building efficient bridges between research, policy and practice. The programme promotes a culture of evidence-based policy-making - nationally, regionally and internationally. As the only UNESCO programme that fosters and promotes social science research, it is placed in a pivotal position in the overall promotion of UNESCO's goals.

IFAP is exclusively dedicated to promoting universal access to information and knowledge for development. It is a key plank in building Knowledge Societies. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
