UAE wins seat in UNESCO Executive Board

Paris - The United Arab Emirates has won a seat in the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

Education Minister Humaid Mohammed Al Qattami extended greetings to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Their Highnesses the Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates and General His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

He said the UAE received 144 votes out of total 186, topping the Arab Group in the organisation which competed for 3 seats in the Board.

Al Qattami said this win reflected the huge respect the UAE enjoys worldwide and the prominent role it plays in serving global issues, especially in the humanitarian arenas. "This win is a translation to the progress and prosperity witnessed in all walks of life in the UAE, thanks to our wise leadership," he added.

Al Qattami headed the country's delegation to the 36th session of the UNESCO and met with a number of officials, including UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova and heads of member states delegations. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
