Dubai Sports City is hosting a special golf fundraising event and afternoon family day on 27 February at The Els Club to help raise funds in support of the victims of Haiti's devastating earthquake of 13 January, one which has killed more than 150,000 people and left as many more without homes or basic living necessities.

The charity golf event will see 144 amateur golfers compete for sponsor-donated prizes, followed by an afternoon family day open to the general public and an auction, which includes flights, golf holidays, and sport memorabilia. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Haiti Relief Program through UAE's Red Crescent.

Mohammad Abdullah Alhaj Al Zaroni - Manager of the Red Crescent, said, "We are grateful for the support from Dubai Sports City and its partners and their initiative for the people of Haiti." U. Balasubramaniam, CEO, Dubai Sports City, said: "Dubai Sports City is proud to be associated with UAE's Red Crescent on this initiative to help the people of Haiti by donating all the proceeds from the event. We strongly encourage the UAE community to take part, and together we can make a real impact." Participating sponsors include Jumeirah Group, Emirates Airlines, The First Group, Sharp, Oakley, Golf Digest Middle East, Troon Golf, Callaway Golf, and The Els Club.

Andrew ‘Freddie' Flintoff, ambassador for The First Group, who will be headlining the charity fundraising golf event, said: "As an ambassador for The First Group and owner of property in Dubai Sports City, I spend a lot of time in Dubai and it is great to see the local community joining together to help raise funds for those suffering in Haiti. I'm delighted to be able to lend my support to such a worthy cause, and I look forward to seeing everyone on February 27th at The Els Club." - Emirates News Agency, WAM
