Beijing - The UAE pavilion at the 2010 Shanghai Expo reflects the UAE's interest in furthering relations with China, stressed Vice Mayor of Chinese Nantong City Shen Zhengxin.

The UAE Pavilion which is organised and run by the UAE's National Media Council serves as a dazzling reflection of the UAE's authentic traditions and overall development under the leadership of H.H Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, according to Zhengxin in a statement to WAM.

The UAE pavilion takes visitors in a virtual journey making them understand the spirit of the UAE people who have created life in the desert and have learned from their forefathers how to create shade, to escape heat, and to survive in a harsh environment. Along the path, flower beds and trees are everywhere, creating a scene of fantasy completely alien to the dunes. Without the wisdom of people, there will be no miracle.

Zhengxin described the massive pavilion of the world's largest exhibitions as a tool for building of bridges of communication and cooperation where millions of visitors from China and other countries throng the massive sand dune-like structure to contribute to trade and tourism exchange with the UAE.

With a population of 7.6 million people, Nantong which hosts one of China's biggest industrial zones is also one of the fastest growing Chinese cities and a national tourist centre. Already the world's third largest producer of textiles with revenues hitting US$ 14.6 billion in 2009, Nantong's GDP reached US$ 42 billion in 2009. The city is now home to US$ 5.5 billion of foreign investments.

Zhengxin expects the number of renewable energy companies in Nantong to reach 2000 by the end of 2020. He noted that Abu Dhabi's Masdar, the world's first zero-carbon, zero-emissions city, serves as a civilized model of green cities and a venue of cooperation between the emirate and Nantong.

Trade between Nantong and Gulf countries reached US$11 billion last year, according to Zhengxin who said the city has plans to invest in textile manufacturing in the Arabian Gulf and MENA region. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
