The UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation yesterday announced that Emirati holders of ordinary passports can now get transit permits at points of entry in the Chinese provinces of Shanghai, Jiangsu and Zhejiang and stay for 144 hours without the need for a visa.

The ministry said it had received the announcement in an official memorandum from the Chinese government.

Ahmed Elham Al Dhaheri, Assistant Undersecretary for Consular Affairs at the UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, explained that Emiratis wishing to receive a transit permit should have a valid ordinary Emirati passport, an air ticket showing date of departure and seat number on a flight bound for a third country before the period of 144 hours is over.

He noted that Emirati holders of ordinary passport wishing to get a visa to China still need to apply directly at Chinese missions in the UAE.

The new advantage given by the new procedure to Emirati holders of ordinary passports reflects the deep cooperation and promoted bilateral relations between the two countries in all spheres.

Al Dhaheri stressed that Emirati nationals should register with the ministry's Twajudi service through the ministry's official website www.mofa.gov.ae and download a mobile app, UAEMOFA before they leave the country. – Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395292354876.html
