A UAE aircraft carrying relief material left for Kabul yesterday to boost the ongoing humanitarian efforts by the UAE to alleviate the suffering of underprivileged Afghans. The 40 tonnes of food stuff, blankets, winter clothes and formulas for infant consumption will be distributed by a team from the UAE Red Crescent Authority - RCA- in Afghanistan upon instructions by UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan who also chairs the UAE Red Crescent Authority.

The UAE relief team which will be led by Director of Relief and Emergencies at RCA is due in Kabul on Sunday to oversee the distribution of the relief goods and carry out other humanitarian missions.

"RCA has always been present on the humanitarian arena in Afghanistan through its educational, health and relief programmes which were initiated 10 years ago", said Secretary General of RCA Dr. Abdullah Saleh Al Taei. The UAE relief team will also oversee preparations for inaugurating a number of vital and development projects being implemented by RCA.

"Reports by RCA's office in Kabul on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan and delegates who make regular field visits show that there are still many challenges which mandate more support and efforts." RCA, Al Taei added, gives special attention to Afghanistan operations and is doing its best to ease the suffering of the Afghan people. (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
