A delegation from the UAE's Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has left for Uzbekistan to distribute humanitarian aid for refugees who were displaced to the Kyrgyz-Uzbek by violence in Kyrgyzstan over the past week.

The RCA aid for Kyrgyz refugees was ordered by H.H Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region '&' President of the RCA.

A quick assessment of the humanitarian conditions on ground will be made by RCA team to develop a plan to distribute emergency aid which includes blankets, tents, food and medicine, according to Dr Saleh Al-Taei', Secretary General of RCA and head of the delegation to Uzbekistan.

Al-Taei says the UAE's aid materials to be procured by RCA from Uzbekistan's local markets will be hauled on trucks to the borders with Kyrgyzstan.

The RCA team will hold meetings with representatives of international aid agencies and the Uzbek Red Crescent to coordinate the emergency humanitarian operation.

While there, the team will also work with representatives of the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to implement a memorandum of understanding signed earlier with the UAE's Sheikha Fatima Fund for Refugee Women and Children and RCA to help refugee women and children. The majority of refugees at the closed Kyrgyz-Uzbek borders are women and children. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
