UAE's Zayed Charity keen on carrying out operations in Sudan

Director General of Zayed Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Works (ZFCHW) Mohammed bin Obaid Al-Dhaheri emphasised the UAE charity's keenness on carrying out humanitarian operations and development projects in Sudan. "ZFCHW is keen on playing a significant role in humanitarian and charity operations in Sudan and other sisterly Arab countries who are prioritized by the foundation in line with the goals laid out by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan," he said. The foundation, he added, is prepared to build medical centres and dispatch emergency aid to victims of floods and conflicts in Darfur and other areas.

Al Dhaheri made his remarks during a meeting yesterday in Abu Dhabi with Sudanese ambassador to the UAE Ja'afar Ahmed Abdul Kareem. The meeting discussed venues of charity and humanitarian cooperation between the UAE and Sudan. The meeting also discussed the foundation's humanitarian and development projects in Sudan where ZFCHW is drilling water wells in some Sudanese areas to provide fresh water to the population as part of the foundation's Zayed the Benevolent initiative.

ZFCHW is working in line with UAE the directions of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and its operation are followed up on by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces as well as chairman of the board of trustees of the ZFCHW Sheikh Ahmed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Briefing ZFCHW's officials on projects to be constructed in Sudan, Abdul Kareem expressed thanks to the UAE leadership and people for the humanitarian efforts in his country. Between 2001 and 2007, ZFCHW has offered more than Dh19 million in aid to Sudan. Dh7 million has been allocated to the Zayed the Benevolent project. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
