The first of two planes carrying 40 tons of relief supplies for quake victims will leave for Iran today. Dr. Saleh Mousa Al Ta'i, Director of the UAE Red Crescent Society's Relief and Projects Department, who will head the delegation accompanying the plane said that the supplies would be distributed to victims and the delegation would also assess the extent of damage and the future needs of victims. He said that the Society's delegation would work in co-ordination with the Iranian Red Crescent Society.

The dispatch of the supplies comes in line within the framework of the instructions of H.H. President Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan who on Saturday ordered urgent relief supplies to be sent to victims of the earthquake that hit parts of Iran. The Society said the second plane carrying another 40 tons would leave for Tehran on Tuesday. A devastating earthquake, measuring 6.0 on the open-ended Richter scale, hit early morning Saturday the city of Bouynzahra, in northwestern Qazvin province, leaving 250 dead, at least 1,000 injured and 12,000 homeless.
