Al Fattan Ship Industry, a UAE-based local company has launched 16 Meter Combat Boat, its first combat boat in the UAE, manufactured entirely by using local expertise.

"This combat boat is designed and built by Al Fattan Ship Industry in the UAE. It is made of fiber glass and can carry weapons and 12 plus 2 troops," Mesfer Nasir Alkurbi, the General Manager of Al Fattan Ship Industry told WAM at NAVDEX.

The Combat boat is 16 metre ling and has a breadth of 3.9 metre. The depth of the boat is 1.80 metre with a tank capacity of 2200 litre. The boat has 1136 horse power engine and it can go to a maximum speed of 50 knots. 12.7 mm guns can be installed on the side of the deck, rooftop and aft deck, towards the stern (rear) of the boat.

The boat has the capability to take troops into a combat zone through rough and shallow waters at a high speed. The boat is built from a combination of fiber glass and aluminium structures to minimize lightship weight and maximize its capability. "This is first time the company has launched this boat in the NAVDEX, which is 100 percent made in UAE," Alkurbi asserted.

Answering a question about any possible interest shown during the show by expected buyers, he said that visitors and delegates from different Navies were surprised to know that this is a UAE made combat boat and their response was very promising.

He said that there are three companies namely Siham al Khaleej Technology, Etihad Ship Building and Zodiac Milpro who have displayed their products in Al Fattan Ship Industry pavilion.

Answering a question about future prospects of selling companies' products, Mr. Alkurbi said that right now we are focusing on the GCC market, then we will look to the MENA region and hope fully rest of the world.
