The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR, in the United Arab Emirates has hailed the "Our Heart with the People of Syria" Campaign, a humanitarian initiative called for by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to support Syrian refugees who are facing the severe cold weather in Syria's neighbouring countries The campaign resulted in the collection of cash donations amounting to about Dh 120 million in addition to huge quantities of in-kind assistance .

In a statement yesterday, Nasrin Rabiean, Acting Director of the UNHCR office in Abu Dhabi, expressed the Commissioner's thanks and appreciation to the UAE government and people for their quick response to the campaign which reflected a deep understanding of the humanitarian issues.

She also expressed confidence that thousands of Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon will benefit from the donations. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
