UNICEF lauds RCS's quake aid efforts

Islamabad - Dr Saleh Al Taei, Head of the UAE Red Crescent team in Pakistan, met here today with Omar Abdi, the UNICEF Representative in Pakistan. During the meeting, Abdi expressed the UNICEF thanks to the RCS for the great efforts being made to provide relief to the survivors of the devastating earthquake which hit northern areas of Pakistan.

"The 50 tents provided to the UNICEF by the RCS have been used as makeshift schools at the quake-hit areas. The RCS also made cash and material donations to the campaign aimed at immunizing 250,000 children against measles in Kashmir," he said.

He also met with Ayaz Raheem, Secretary General of Pakistan Prime Minister's office who conveyed to him thanks and appreciation of the Pakistani Premier Shaukat Aziz for the assistance offered to the quake survivors.

Al Taei also took part in a conference called by General Mohammed Zubair, Head of the government committee for reconstruction and rehabilitation. He said during the conference that H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, honorary Chairperson of the RCS, has directed setting up orphanages and schools for children with special needs in the quake-hit areas of Pakistan.
