The United Nations' Children Fund (UNICEF) today hailed the sustained support provided by the leadership, the Government and the people of the UAE to the distressed and the needy around the world. The UN body also praised the role played by the UAE Red Crescent Society in delivering the UAE's aid to the needy. "The RCS is a distinguished organisation amongst world's humanitarian bodies,” said Stephen Cassidy, Head of UNICEF Regional Office in the Gulf. Cassidy who met yesterday with RCS Board Chairman Khalifa Nasser Al Suweidi, also commended the UAE support to the Iraqi people, saying that the timely UAE aid did alleviate the suffering of a vast social category in that country. During their meeting, Suweidi and Cassidy discussed ways of supporting UNICEF projects in Iraq. (The Emirates News Agency, WAM)
