Peter Ford, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), said The Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation which he said stood itself out among similar bodies in helping out Palestinians in refugee camps, alleviating the suffering of children in and providing them with education opportunities.

Ford expressed grief and sorrow over the hard conditions suffered by Palestinians in Gaza as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression which has blocked delivering aid to Palestinians and brought humanitarian projects, some of which are being funded by the Zayed Foundation, to a halt.

The UNRWA Commissioner General made his remarks at a meeting today with the Director General of the Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation Salim Obaid Al Dhaheri. Ford and Al Dhaheri discussed ways of boosting cooperation and coordination between the two bodies.

Thanking the Zayed Foundation for its humanitarian role and efforts in times of crises, Ford cited the agreement signed between the two bodies last year whereby the Foundation funded the construction and restoration of schools, health medical services facilities in Palestinian refugee camps. He noted UNRWA's recent appeal to donor states for emergency aid for Gaza residents of whom 70% are considered as underprivileged refugees. For his part, Al Dhaheri said the Foundation is always prepared to offer immediate help to Palestinians in the Occupied Territories. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
