The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, has underlined the importance of the third edition of the Government Summit, which will be hosted by the UAE between 9-11 February, and described the event as a valuable gathering that brings together influential policymakers and partners from around the world working from different perspectives to reach the same shared goal of improving government.

In an statement, Ki-moon said, "I am delighted to take part in this important Government Summit 2015 hosted by the United Arab Emirates. I am deeply grateful to the people and leaders of the UAE, particularly President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan and Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum." "This valuable gathering brings together influential policymakers and partners from around the world working from different perspectives to reach the same shared goal of improving government." Ki-moon hailed the UAE's keen interest in hosting this annual international event which is attended by thousands of government officials, decision makers and policymakers from around the world.

"I count on this Summit to advance progress in fostering governments that uphold the values of peace, development and human rights while serving the common good," Ki-moon said.

Ki-moon will be one of the keynote speakers on the first day of the Government Summit 2015 which will be held under the patronage of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, under the theme, "Shaping Future Governments." The UN Secretary-General added that the United Nations has three milestone events this year: the Third International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa in July; the Special Summit on Sustainable Development in New York in September, and the Climate Change Conference in Paris in December.

The success of their outcomes, Ki-moon added, will depend on accountable and transparent governments that engage people in decisions affecting them.
