Kabul - The United Nation's special envoy to Afghanistan Kai Eide has expressed profound thanks to the government of the UAE for its generous support for UN personnel injured in a recent attack in Afghan capital Kabul.

In a message he dispatched to the UAE Embassy in Kabul, the UN envoy appreciated the warm welcome and good treatment the UAE has accorded to the UN staff.

Twenty-seven UN staff members who survived an attack in Kabul on 28th October 2009 were flown to the UAE for treatment. Five UN employees died and several were wounded when militants stormed a guesthouse where they were staying. The UAE condemned the attack and vowed to continue its support of the UN's efforts to restore stability and security in Afghanistan. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
