A visiting delegation of assistants to U.S. Congress members on Tuesday was briefed on the work of the UAE's Federal National Council, FNC, and legislative and control roles. The delegation was received by Amal Al-Qubaisi, First Deputy Speaker of FNC, and members Rashid Al-Shuraiqi and Noura Al-Ka'abi.

Al-Qubaisi, in remarks during the meeting, stressed that FNC is among the institutions which realised the principles of political practice by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan when the UAE federation was established. She noted that the first elections for half of FNC members were held in 2006 as part of the political programme of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. She also noted that women now enjoy the right to vote and run for FNC elections. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
