GENEVA: The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, OCHA, in Geneva yesterday expressed its appreciation for efforts made by the UAE and the GCC to help Yemenis affected by Cyclone Chapala which hit the country over the past few days.

OCHA spokesman, Jens Laerke, said that the GCC had sent at least 17 aircraft loaded with humanitarian aid to Socotra island, pointing out that non-governmental organisations have also been distributing aid, including food, tents and blankets, while the United Arab Emirates has provided over 30 tonnes of medical relief supplies for the Khalifa bin Zayed Hospital in Socotra through the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation. – Emirates News Agency, WAM -
