Hanoi - Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Doan Xuan Hung received yesterday Dr. Tariq Al Haidan, Assistant UAE Foreign Minister for Political Affairs and head of the UAE delegation to the preparatory meeting for the first session of the Emarati-Vietnamese joint committee which will start tomorrow here.

The Vietnamese minister said the UAE-Vietnam relations had been experiencing steady growth and exchange of official visits is push them forward.

For his part, the UAE official hoped the first meeting of the UAE-Vietnam joint committee would open up new avenues for further enhancement of political, economic and trade relations between the two countries.

He said the recent visit made by Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Hanoi underlined the depth of bilateral bonds.

The two sides agreed to activate a memorandum of understanding signed between foreign ministries on political consultations.

The meeting also reviewed ways of boosting bilateral relations and a host of issues of mutual interest.

UAE Minister of Economy Sultan Bin Saeed Al-Mansouri is leading the UAE delegation to the first meeting which will discuss key topics to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly economic, trade and investment cooperation between both countries.

Al-Mansouri, in an earlier press release, said UAE's leadership is keen to strengthen relations with various countries of the world and in particular East Asia and Vietnam.

Al-Mansouri said that the visit of Sheikh Abdullah to Vietnam in October had paved the way for the first meeting of the joint committee, where H.H discussed ways to enhance cooperation in all fields, including economic, investment and infrastructure.

"Both countries have great desire to promote fruitful cooperation relations in economic and trade and customs and financial and banking, education, technology and environment, water and other areas and also to share experiences in various sectors and take advantage of shared experiences in these areas," he added.

He noted the importance of the committee meetings that are going to assess synergies and to propose solutions and mechanisms to overcome all obstacles and take the necessary decisions and actions.

The Minister stated that the participation of more than 16 representatives from ministries, institutions and local companies from federal, local and governments in the meeting reflects the willingness of the UAE to develop bilateral relations with Vietnam on all levels.

UAE and Vietnam has signed 14 MoUs on the protection and promotion of investment in 2009, double taxation on income in 2009, economic and trade cooperation in 1999, an air transport agreement in 2001, mutual exemption from the visa requirement for holders of diplomatic passports and officials in October 2010. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
