Shanghai - As three weeks elapsed after the opening of the Expo 2010 Shanghai in China, figures showed that over 420,200 people from China and abroad visited the UAE pavilion. UAE's National Media Council (NMC), the organisers of the pavilion, forecast that the number of visitors will cross half a million by the end of the month.

During the past few days the visitors continued to throng the pavilion, which is built in the shape of sand dunes in a desert. Each day, over 25,000 visitors of various nationalities toured the pavilion that artistically holds a mirror against the life, culture, heritage and the renaissance of the UAE.

A team of volunteers have been trained by the NMC to welcome the visitors, familiarise them with various wings at the pavilion and answer their queries about the UAE.

A folklore band sponsored by UAE's Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development played an active role in attracting the visitors of different ethnicities. Their national folklore presentations won enormous admiration from all visitors and participants in the event.

Through its supervision of the UAE pavilion at the Expo 2010 Shanghai, the National Media Council expressed its keenness to highlight UAE's commitment to interact with other civilizations and cultures, and shed light on its concern for the environment and the transfer and indigenization of technology for the preparation of future generations.

Representatives of Mexican and the Chilean firms and officials from Ivory Coast and Algeria were among the visitors yesterday and were received by Abdullah Al-Aidaroos, Deputy Commissioner-General of the UAE pavilion at the Expo 2010 Shanghai. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
