The World Economic Forum's 4th Summit on the Global Agenda drew to a close in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday after two days of brainstorming and discussions.
Participating in 79 Agenda Councils, the 800 participants worked together to shape the Summit report The Outlook On The Global Agenda', identifying leading global challenges.
The 2011 Summit Co-Chairmen were Eng. Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy, and Nasser Ahmed Alsowaidi, Chairman of the Department of Economic Development Abu Dhabi.
The final plenary session was attended by Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority of Abu Dhabi, and Mohammed Omar Abdulla, Undersecretary of the Department of Economic Development Abu Dhabi, representing Summit Co-Chair Nasser Ahmed Alsowaidi.
The final day of the Summit, a temperature taking on the world's most pressing issues and developments, brought Council Members together in a series of five modular brainstorms aimed at shaping the Forum Agenda ahead of Davos. Council Members later came together to review and agree outcomes in a plenary session. Key topics for discussion included the economy, employment and job creation, resource scarcity and demographic change, global and regional governance and digital governance systems.
The role of human capital was amongst the key takeaways, with participants emphasising the critical importance of addressing the supply and demand issues of job creation. The alignment between talent and skills with the requirements of business and the new economy was highlighted as essential for supporting business growth, and growth of the economy more widely. Similarly, the role of entrepreneurs in scaling new innovations into small and medium enterprises was identified as an important consideration for future policy making worldwide.
The outcomes and insights will inform the virtual work planning for the Councils from November through to June 2012 in the context of continuing cross-council collaboration and contributing to future Forum activities and initiatives.
Al Mansoori said: "Hosting the World Economic Forum's 4th Summit on The Global Agenda has reinforced the UAE's role as an important location for trade and investment but also as a global knowledge partner and citizen." Mohammed Omar Abdulla said: "The Summit on the Global Agenda is a great platform to showcase the fast-paced transformation we have been through over the last four decades, as well as presenting Abu Dhabi's ambitious vision for the future towards long-term sustainable and diversified economic growth.
The 4th annual Summit on the Global Agenda was jointly hosted by the UAE Federal Government and the Government of Abu Dhabi alongside the World Economic Forum. It was attended by more than 800 members of the Global Agenda Councils from more than 80 countries.
Over two days, Council Members, including 36 from the UAE, participated in an extensive program of Council working groups and brainstorming sessions across a diverse range of strategically important policy areas including those most important to the UAE: Climate change, education, the environment, health and wellbeing and finance and the economy. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
