Window to tradition

Enter the Emirates Heritage Village for a walk down history. Need a culturally enriching way to beat the gruelling heat? Overwhelmed by Westernised pastimes such as malls, restaurants and cinemas, Abu Dhabians forget that they live in a country, let alone a city, that is bubbling with rich heritage and a fascinating history.

Situated on a sprawling 1,600 sq metre site overlooking the Corniche, the Emirates Heritage Village journeys you to the past and lets you experience traditional life in Abu Dhabi, before the discovery of oil transformed the landscape. Run by the Emirates Heritage Club, the Heritage Village houses spice, weaving and pottery shops, a dagger-making place, a glassblowing shop and an agricultural section.

Besides the Bedouin tents, you can find reconstructions of palm houses, old fishing villages and traditional souqs. Given its location by sea near the Breakwater, maritime traditions and exhibitions are a special feature.

The Emirates Heritage Club was set up in 1997 in a bid to protect and preserve the heritage of the United Arab Emirates. The Heritage Village is one of the many proofs that the Heritage Club puts lots of effort into its work; complementing the fascinating exhibitions found at the Heritage Village are passionate and savvy people who know their information, traditions and culture like the palm of their hands.
