World Food Programme lauds UAE role in Syrian refugees relief efforts

The World Food Programme (WFP) has lauded the UAE's prompt response to the Syrian refugees' call for aid, following the shattering events that Syrians have been put through, thus making them refugees in huge numbers seeking asylum in Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq and Turkey.

The WPF added in its latest report that the refugee camps lack the most basic facilities and food, as well as medicine provisions. WPF also stated that the urgency of this situation has made a large number of humanitarian organisations, notably the UAE Red Crescent Authority (RCA), sprint to action and send provisions, rations and other necessities to ease the troubles of Syrian people in the refugee camps.

It is worth mentioning that the RCA has organised an air bridge to transport thousands of tons of relief items to the refugees in Jordan. It has also constructed a field hospital north of Jordan to provide medical care as well as camps for accommodation, and provision of at least the basic necessary life needs, especially for women and children, who constitute the largest percentage of the refugees.

The RCA is expected to open during the next few days a large refugee camp for the Syrians in "Mreejab Al Fohood" in Jordan, fully equipped with the necessary facilities such as water, sewage system and service facilities, including an integrated hospital to provide the necessary health service for the refugees. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
