Major General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief, yesterday inaugurated the UAE leg of the World billiards championships at the Dubai Police Officers Club. The championship is being organised by Accounts Middle East in an attempt to promote the game at all levels in the UAE. The first part of the competition, meant for players from the UAE, will start simultaneously at 5.30pm on March 12 at various venues all over the UAE. Over 1,500 players will be in action over one month to choose the eight best. The second tier of the competition will see 128 players from the Middle East region compete to fill up eight places. The best eight each from the UAE and the Middle East will join the 16 best cueists from the world for the grand finale in the last week of April. (The Gulf News)
