Yemeni President, Ali Abdullah Saleh, has expressed happiness for visiting the UAE at the invitation of President H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

In a statement on arrival in Abu Dhabi yesterday, President Saleh said the visit was part of the fraternal consultations between the leaderships of the two countries to review what had so far been achieved in the area of bilateral cooperation and to further push forward the level of cooperation to a greater height.

He said the past years had witnessed a major surge in joint investment activities between the two countries in various areas. He expressed profound gratitude to the UAE for the great support it offered to Yemen during the donors conference in London last November.

He pointed out that his talks with the UAE President would also deal with a number of issues, including the latest developments in the region, particularly the situation in Iraq, Palestine, Sudan, Somalia and Lebanon, as well as coordinating Arab stance and galvanising Arab solidarity to face the challenges and dangers facing the Arab nation, adding that he would also discuss with Sheikh Khalifa how best to activate the mechanism for joint Arab action.

"I will also meet with a number of UAE investors to invite them to invest in Yemen," he said, adding that there are many investment opportunities in Yemen which would further boost the economic partnership between the two countries.

He expressed the hope that the visit would achieve its targeted objectives and the aspirations of the people of the two countries.

Prior to his departure from Yemen, the Yemeni President, in a statement to WAM, praised the existing bilateral ties between the UAE and his country, describing those ties as "fraternal, strong and special". He said those ties can best be described as "a model of fraternal ties between sister countries". (Emirates News Agency, WAM)
