Sana'a - Yemeni civil societies on Tuesday organised a march to the UAE Embassy and delivered a letter to UAE diplomats apologising for the accident last Sunday when demonstrators besieged the Embassy in Sanaa at a time when UAE, GCC and western diplomats as well as the secretary-general of the GCC, Abdul Latif Al Zayani, were inside.

The letter expressed "profound sorrow over the irresponsible attack on the embassy's staff by the President's supporters who were angry out of their clinging to him as their leader and also out of fear he would step down because of the current crisis." Last Sunday, supporters of President Ali Abdullah Saleh besieged the UAE Embassy in Sana'a at a time when UAE, GCC and western diplomats as well as the secretary-general of the GCC, Abdul Latif Al Zayani, were inside.

The letter also expressed the "sincere appreciation of the Yemeni civil societies groups and the Yemeni people for the leadership and the people of the UAE." "Thus accident did not target the UAE, its leadership or its ambassador nor would it affect the strong brotherly ties between the two countries and their peoples," the letter said. Participants also offered a wreath of roses to the UAE embassy as a token of appreciation for the UAE. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
