Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation said on Wednesday it would study UNRWA's new projects to improve living conditions in Palestinian refugee camps.

Ready to join forces

Mohammed Saeed Al Qubaisi, head of Projects, Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, said during a meeting with Peter Ford, representative of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Commissioner that the foundation was ready to join forces with the UN refugees agency to launch new charitable programmes to serve Palestinian refugees.

Al Qubaisi said the foundation had carried out a raft of UNRWA supervised humanitarian, health and educational projects in the West Bank and Gaza Strip to the tune of Dhs75 million.

Health campaign

He added that the foundation is undertaking a health campaign to vaccinate 300,000 Palestinian children against pulmonary inflammation, tuberculosis (TB) and polio.

The three-year preventive health programme is scheduled to be completed by the year end.

On his part, Ford presented a number of projects that need funding, including a 32-class school in Gaza at an estimated cost of US$2 million to accommodate 2,000 pupils.

According to him, health and educational facilities were in desperate need of overhaul and reconstruction.

The UNRWA representative also sought financial aid of US$9 million to provide urgent relief and cash aid to Palestinian refugees in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon due to the extraordinary circumstances in these host countries.

The foundation promised to study these projects and submit recommendations for participation to its Board of Trustees for action. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
